Vattenfall and partnerships for fossil-free industries

Mikael Nordlander, Head of Industry Decarbonisation R&D, Vattenfall AB

Synopsis: Since 2016, power utility Vattenfall has engaged in long-term strategic partnerships with basic industries, for example HYBRIT with SSAB and LKAB, jointly striving for phasing out use of fossil fuels and enabling fossil-free production. Mikael will present how this partnership approach has been developed and the implications these new value chains can have.

Leveraging data analytics for the energy transition and customer empowerment

Michael Koller, CTO, EKZ

Synopsis: In the context of the energy transition data analytics can play a key role in ensuring continuously high security of supply at reasonable costs. Where traditional approaches to plan and operate the electrical distribution grid lead to a large oversizing of grid components planning approaches based on Smart Metering time series data can estimate the actual grid loading levels to a much higher accuracy. The advantage becomes ever more important with new photovoltaic plants, electric vehicle charging stations and heat pumps attached to the grid.  Additionally, new customer platforms can help B2C clients realize untapped efficiency potential by providing individual advice based on machine learning approaches.

AI –a multi tool; Some applications at Saab

Göran Backlund, CTO, Saab Dynamics AB

Synopsis: AI technologies are of growing importance in Saab products, but also in ways-of-working and production. Of particular interest is knowledge and experience that goes in the direction of collaborative vehicles – autonomous and heterogeneous.

Fuel flexibility enhancement & Decarbonization of the installed gas turbine fleets

Dr. Vladimir Navrotsky, Chief Technology Officer, Siemens Energy, Industrial Application Service

Synopsis: This presentation will focus on application of additive manufacturing for gas turbine components design and manufacturing to enhance gas turbine fuel flexibility and emissions reduction as a part of the Sustainability and Decarbonization Program. The achieved results in AM design, fuel flexibility and turbine's efficiency enhancement, fuel consumption and emissions reduction will be presented and discussed. The importance and examples of cooperation and collaboration between OEM and Energy and O&G Industry operators will be shown as well.

Spearheading robotics and AI in new applications through collaboration with startups

Björn Axling, VP Accelerated Innovation & Venturing, Husqvarna Group

Synopsis: As a big company, moving into and starting to explore new areas is often associated with a large strategic investment or fairly slow, small-scale tests conducted as skunkworks on the side of the official priorities. Husqvarna Group's Innovation & Technology unit has the outspoken mission of exploring these new opportunities with both speed and ability to move from small PoC's, MVP to initial incubation of commercial solutions. To do this, we work extensively with startups and tapping into the power of the leading innovation ecosystems in order to test the most promising solutions at a speed not normally associated with large corporations.

Sensing the Earth for safe mining

Savka Dineva & Jordi Puig, R&D Manager (Mining Technology), LKAB

Synopsis: Sensing the Earth: Finding patterns, identifying precursors to seismic events, stress changes and rockmass deformations. LKAB has one of the world's largest underground seismic networks and registers vast amounts of seismic activity on a 24/7 bases all year around. Additionally, stress cells and deformation measurement instruments are installed across the mines. Can this data be analysed in a way to identify possible patterns that could warn us about the possible occurrence of seismic events, stress changes or large rock deformations to increase safety at our mines and lead the future for others?

Innovation in traditional industry

Hans Larsson, Director Strategic Innovation, Toyota Material Handling Europe

Synopsis: The world is changing for a tradional industrial company. From a history where lower cost, increased perfoamnce and highest quality did matter the most, a new far more complex world is emerging. This presentation is about how Toyota Material Handling is changing its strategi to become more fast and innovative.

Open Innovation & Venturing for profitable growth

Thierry Golliard, Director Open Innovation & Venturing, Swiss Post

Synopsis: Swiss Post has just been awarded “world’s best postal service” for the fourth time in a row but is at the same time facing unprecedented disruption. Where does Swiss Post plan to grow in this challenging environment? How is Swiss Post leveraging open innovation and corporate venturing to achieve it? And what kind of startups/partnerships is Swiss Post interested in?
