Visualization and Visual Analytics: Fundamentals and Perspectives
Synopsis: State-of-the-art data visualization and visual analytics approaches are key to address the big data challenge and to enhance data analysts’ decision making. In this talk, we will introduce both technologies and highlight our recent research efforts and interests within these areas. We will also provide a short outline of how visualization is related to AI/ML, recent trends and perspectives, as well as our collaboration interests with academia and industry.
Big Data and Machine Learning in on-line process monitoring for AM
Synopsis: State-of-the-art on-line quality assurance tools in laser based powder bed fusion enable significant increase in robustness in AM processes that allows to increase the quality of AM components and minimize/avoid the need for expensive post-AM quality assurance. Industrial application of such systems requires efficient closed-loop control algorithms, development of which is challenging due to the high process speed in AM and huge amount of data generated, that requires development of the efficient data mining and machine learning procedures.
Edge AI and Vision systems for Smart Sensing
Synopsis: Digital transformation is due to change the industrial world. What is inhibiting a quicker uptake of artificial intelligence technologies by industry? In this talk, we will discuss some of the key challenges and solutions in using edge artificial intelligence solutions for vision applications. We will also explore some key trends that are expected to play an important role in for intelligent sensing in the future.
Digital Tools for Manufacturing Technologies – Use of Sensors, Machine Learning and Big Data to Develop new Manufacturing Technologies
Synopsis: Thanks to increased computational power, powerful software modules and a clever use of hardware components such as sensors, we can develop new cutting-edge manufacturing technologies and improve or better control existing manufacturing technologies. In this talk, we will show how research organizations such as Empa use digital tools to develop new manufacturing technologies and how new hardware components, advanced algorithms and integrated software modules can be used to better control advanced manufacturing processes.
